Wacky Watercooler March Madness Blog Hop!

Welcome to another wonderful Wacky Watercooler Hop.

A group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators join together,
hoping to inspire you with fun crafting ideas and themes.
This is our March Madness hop, featuring Special Folds.

Sadly, I haven't been able to track down the inspiration

for my card above.  I believe that it was a SU demonstrator from

the UK or Australia. 

I love the SAB Flowering Fields set and coordinating

Wildflower Fields DSP on page 12 of the SAB brochure.

For this project, I stamped the various flowers and colored

 with colors from the DSP pack.  I highlighted the 

Hello Honey areas with the Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

 The fold was achieved by folding a piece of card stock

and placing it in the largest framelit of the Ovals Collection

Framelits (on page 173), positioning it so that the fold was

not cut through. The oval with the images was attached to that, so that all of the scallops around the edge would be complete.


This combination was fit to the front of the card.
I had to make the card slightly narrower (4"), so that the
scalloped edge could swing past the outside edge of the card.
(Sorry if this makes no sense.  I really did this seat-of-my-pants).
It is set up so that the event/sentiment can be added inside this fold.

  

My second card was inspired by http://agnieszka-scrappassion.blogspot.com.  

I used the Timeless Elegance DSP (p 143) to decorate a 4x4

card that opens at the bottom.  The insert pulls out via

the 5/8" Gold Satin ribbon tab.  I used a gold brad to hold the fold

in place, because 3 layers made it very hard to bend and 

fasten with adhesive.   More 5/8" Gold Satin ribbon (p 159)
was used to form a bow around the project, with an Antique Brad
(p 160) attached.

It's hard to tell, but I did cut out extra flowers and layer
them on the card insert, to give it more dimension.
I think that this would a neat format to use to make place cards,
with the insert containing the menu for the event.

This is another card featuring the Wildflower Fields DSP 

on page 12.  I used the banner from the Circle Card Thinlits

as a layer for the sentiment, and the card closure.

Pretty quick card, with a brad holding it closed.

Black Line Flowering Fields

Stampin' Up! demonstrators receive a quarterly brochure

from the company, offering ideas and business information.

The is a rough CASE of a card sample.  It had solid black lines,

that looked like the Brushstrokes stamp on page 129.  

But I liked the idea of the more "sketchy" lines from the

Gorgeous Grunge set on page 123.  I added a flower image

from the Flowering Fields FREE SAB set and cut it out

with the Chalk Talk Framelits (p 173), which works perfectly

with this flower.  I layered it on a piece of Mossy Meadow,

cut out with a Lots of Labels framelit and then trimmed down,

so that it fit the flower layer more closely.

I colored the flower with an aqua painter and then

tied it with a 1/4" Cotton Blushing Bride ribbon.

I decided I would add a sentiment later, when I send the card. 

Flowering Fields Faux DSP

In case you haven't noticed, Flowering Fields is one of my

favorite FREE SAB sets.  You simply can do a ton with it,

from techniques, to card sketches.

I decided that I would make a card front that looks like

DSP, but is simply a faux version using this stamp set.

First, I stamped the images from the Flowering Fields set in 

Stazon ink.  Then I used sponges or daubers to add

Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral and

Pear Pizzazz.  Your basic set of happy colors. I colored

the leaves and butterflies with an aqua painter.

I also brushed on a bit of Clear, and Gold Wink of Stella

although I can never get that to show up in a photo.

I wasn't going to include a sentiment, but added "happy day"

from the photopolymer Endless Birthday Wishes set.

Add a couple of layers and you're good to go.

Stamp Off: Inked Textured Embossing Folders

Welcome to another Stamp Off Challenge with

Buffy, Susan and Jackie.

Our challenge today is a technique; using an inked

Textured Embossing Folder on a card.  This is a lovely,

alternative way to use these folders.  You can run the inked

folder through the big shot, or simply squeeze it to apply

the ink to paper.

 For my challenge card, I inked the Decorative Dots Textured Embossing Folder (p 176) with Whisper White Craft ink (p 163)

and used Vellum.  I also stamped the leaves image

from Awesomely Artistic (p 125) with White Stazon, on to

a second layer of Vellum.  Layering those two sheets of vellum

yielded a neat texture.

This is a photo of the two layers, before they were placed

on the card.  I layered Pool Party behind the velum sheets

to pop the white inks.  The Wetlands (p 116) sentiment was

cut out with the Large Oval Punch (p 165).   The 1" Dotted

Tip Top Taupe ribbon was added as the finishing touch,

with the card then layered on to Tip Top Taupe.

Balloon Builder with Lots of Labels Burlap

In this example, rather than adding the Bloomin Heart for 

texture, this Lots of Labels (p 173) opening is backed

with Burlap Ribbon (p158).  I added the balloons from

the photopolymer Balloon Builders set (p 14 of Occasions Mini)

paired with the Balloon Bouquet Punch on page 13. 

The sentiment comes from Honeycomb Happiness Free SAB

set on page 15.

I used the Celebrate Today set on page 102.  It's a great

set for many celebrations, and given the coordinating

Balloons Framelits Dies (p 172), a quick way to make

a card!
