April Trickery Wacky Watercooler Hop

Hey crafters, it's time for another Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop.
If you are following the hop line-up (or circle), you've just seen
Heidi's delightful projects.   She is so creative!
You can hop back to check her projects by clicking below

This Hop's Theme is April trickery, in tribute to April Fools.
This means something unexpected incorporated into the project.
"Out of the box" samples are to be expected!

My first project is a "Happy Cake" that holds a surprise.
The components included 2 "boxes" decorated with 2013-15
Designer Series Paper  and the Lullaby DSP Packs, Petite Petals
and ribbon.  I used the Hello You Thinlits Dies for the sentiment.
This is a picture of the "pieces", that include the gray base,
the cover for the base (lower right), some cardboard layers
to elevate the second layer (upper right) and the top layer.
I don't have measurements because I did this totally
"seat of the pants".  I cut out the opening for the 2nd layer
by holding cake layer 2 to the first layer lid,
tracing it with a pencil and then cutting out the opening.

Here is the surprise/April trickery part of this project.
The 2nd layer can be lifted to reveal an attached mini scrapbook.
This enables this cake to be used as a centerpiece,
that later can store photos of the event.

Sorry that these pictures are not the best.  I was trying to
open the box, while taking pictures with my iPad,
so could not really lift the lid clear of the first cake layer.
From this perspective, you can see that a number of inside
mini scrapbook pages, decorated with Washi Tape,
Going Gray c/s and Lullaby DSP.

My second project is a bow card with a special inside fold.
I used the Bow Builder Punch, on page 13 of the Occasions mini.
I cut and layered 2 bows and then added a Dazzling Diamonds
center flower punched with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.
Colors include Pistachio Pudding, Pirouette Pink and the
2013-15 Designer Series Paper Pack.  I used the Big Shot
Embossing folders that coordinated with the patterns in the DSP.

This is a view of the card opening,
once the embedded magnets are separated.

Finally, this photo shows the card opened, with the
Perfect Pennents (p 16) sentiment.
This interior fold concept comes from Jen Evers.
You can find her video tutorial here
I love this fold.  The hardest part is getting the
magnet closure to work.  I always manage to reverse one
of the magnets and have to tear it apart and reassemble.
It's a "challenging" part of my crafting skill set!

Now please continue on through our little blog hop,
by moving on to Stefanie's site.  She is
incredibly talented, so don't miss her projects!

Oops, I commented in the wrong place the first time! You're projects are really neat! I especially like the fold on your bow card. Embedded magnets...who would have thought? I have so much to learn!

Wow Jackie what great projects. Love that you created that box by the "seat of your pants". That's what we do, right? Nice surprise the little scrapbook in a box. What fun. I love the bow card too, it's so sweet.

Hi Jackie, thanks so much for being part of the blog hop and for stepping into the lead position at the last minute. I love, love, love that great cake/scrapbook in a box. What an amazing idea. My nephew is getting married in August and this would make such a cute gift for their shower. Don't be shocked if you get a request for the measurements. I'll have to try my hand at the card with the imbedded magnets. I've never tried that before.
