Holiday Catalog Smitten Mittens

The 2017 Holiday Catalog will be coming out
in several weeks.  I thought that I would show
you a video here and there, so that you can drool
over products that will be available September 1st!
This suite is filled with fun product!

Colorful Seasons Leaves

The Colorful Seasons set, on page 147, is so much fun
to play with.  It has great images for all 4 seasons,
that can be used alone, or in conjunction with the
coordinating Seasonal Layers Thinlits (p 216).
I think that it is one of the quickest cards to create with,
in part because the images are a great size.
The sentiments are also somewhat "uneven", so that
you don't have to worry about whether you are
stamping them straight.  I really appreciate that because
it saves me time and paper.

Stamp Off Bike Ride with Cool Treats

Friday really comes around fast, doesn't it!   I do like
challenges that fall on a weekly basis, so that I develop
a pattern of checking.  Per that pattern, Buffy, Susan
and I are here for your viewing pleasure!

We had an In Color challenge a while back, and I
inadvertently created today's challenge, without realizing
that I had picked In Colors again.  Guess I am really
trying to push myself to use Lemon Lime Twist, which
goes well with many of the new In Colors.

For my colors, I picked Lemon Lime Twist, Powder Pink
and Tranquil Tide.  I love this sporty combination,
with just a hint of pink, for a "girly bicycle".
The Bike Ride set on page 20, with
coordinating Build A Bike Framelits on page 213 is one
of my favorite new products.  This bike is so carefree,
with lots of coordinating bits, that if feels great on a card.
It coordinates especially well with the Layered Leaves
Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on page 211.

I stamped the sentiment from Cool Treats on page 82,
layering the two greens on the word "COOL".  It just
needed that highlight.

I'm so glad that you stopped by, and know that you
will enjoy the projects shown by Buffy and Susan.

Lovely Inside and Out with Lovely Words Thinlits

I've featured Lovely Inside and Out with the coordinating
Lovely Words Thinlits (pages 157 and 214) several times.
They compliment one another so well, and are simple to
use.  Sometimes you have to think long and hard about
how to put a card together, but that does not seem to be
an issue with this bundle.  I used the Layering Circles
Framelits dies (p 214) to cut out the black background,
which was run through the Hexagons 3D Dynamic
Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (p 211).

Lovely Inside Out with Lovely Words Thinlits

The Lovely Inside and Out stamp set on page 157,
with coordinating Lovely Words Thinlits on page 214 is
a dandy pairing.  The thinlit and stamp set sentiments
enable lots of flexibility, but they really complement
one another.
In this sample, I stamped the Berry Burst layer with
Awesomely Artistic (p 153), with 1/4" Copper Trim accent.

Stamp Off Sunshine Wishes

Buffy, Susan and I are at it, with another Stamp Off
Challenge.  I like this one because Stampin' Up!
makes it so easy!
This challenge is all about using words on your
challenge card.  The words can be stamped or die cut,
but they should be a prominent part of the project.
The Sunshine Wishes Thinlits on page 216 have some
wonderful words.  The are chunky, meaning they are easy
to glue, without making a mess.  These thinlits also offer
great words, including "sunshine", "congrats", "love" and "hope".
You can cut "sun" and "shine apart, to give you more options.
I layered 3 loves, to really emphasize the word.
For this card, I knew that I wanted to use some copper elements,
so watercolored a Pear Pizzazz background.  Once it dried,
I added embossed splotches of Copper Embossing Powder,
1/4 inch Copper Trim (p 199) and  Enamel Shapes from
the Subtles collection on page 196.

Overall, I'm happy with this card, with one HUGE exception.
I can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't make the
background pink or red.  I would have had to ditch the
copper and use a different accent color, but "love" should
be layered on to red.  Sadly, sometimes the card is done,
before these insights dawn.  Guess that I will have to
assert that I love the environment and anything green.

I am betting that Buffy and Susan used more relevant
color combinations, so please check out their challenge cards!

Daisy with Butterfly Basics and Flourish

This card is a combination of some of my favorite products.
I used the new Daisy punch on page 206, placing a 1/2 inch
circle in the center.  The Happy Birthday sentiment from
Butterfly Basics (p 149) was cut out with the Stitched Shapes
Framelits (p 214), with a strip from the Flourish Thinlits (p 216)
layered over top.  The Berry Burst card base was run
through the Oh My Stars Textured Impressions Embossing
folder on page 210.  It actually was a quick and easy card
to create and assemble, given the various Big Shot
accessories and Daisy Punch.

Beaded Flourish Thinlits Per Ubuhle Exhibit

Last week, I visited an exhibit at our local art museum.
and brought up a lot of emotion.  The beautiful, beaded
works of art were created by women with few economic
opportunities, many of whom had HIV.   They worked together
to created panels that were sold to support these women.
It took months to create their lovely panels, and some of the
women died during the course of making their projects.
Later, Chinese imports undermined their efforts.

This inspired me to pull out some of my retired SU micro
beads and make a beaded project.  I used a
Berry Burst flower image from the Flourish Thinlits.
The Ubuhle women always attached their beads to
black fabric, reminiscent of the Xhosa headscarves and skirts
which many of them grew up wearing. I used the Color
Theory DSP pack and layered my beaded medallion on
to a Basic Gray card base, run through the Layered Leaves
Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

If you get a chance, check out the story of the Ubuhle
Beaded artwork here.

Stamp Off Ribbon Christmas Tree

This is our first Stamp Off Challenge for August.
Susan, Buffy and I enjoy bringing you challenges
that feature products from the new 2017-18 catalog.
Along with a new catalog, comes lots of delicious ribbon.
Admittedly, we all tend to hoard new ribbon.
With 10 yards of ribbon on most spools, we have lots of
ribbon to wrap, tie and texturize our crafting projects.
I decided to go in kind of a strange direction with my ribbon.
I really like Christmas projects that have texture, so decided
to layer Pear Pizzazz 3/8 inch Shimmer Ribbon behind the
Christmas tree from the Santa's Sleigh Thinlits on page 214.
I contrasted that Shimmery Ribbon with the deep color
of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack on page 187.
For some reason, I just really liked all the deep colors
and contrasts, that would focus attention on the tree.
Finally, I added Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer
Paper (p 194) ornaments and star.

I appreciate those who hop by my blog, and urge
you to see what Buffy and Susan have done with
their ribbon challenge.

Timeless Colorful Seasons

Colorful Seasons with Seasonal Layers Thinlits (pages 147
and 216) continue to be my go-to products.  They allow
effortless creation of relaxing cards that the receipient
will appreciate.  In this example, I added some color blocking
behind the Adirondack chair with Timeless Textures.  I
just wanted to repeat some of the colors in different ways.

these products work together!!

Stamp Off Masculine Lift Me Up

Welcome to the last Stamp Off Challenge of July.
Time really flies when you have friends like Buffy and
Susan to mark time with.

Today, our challenge is to make a Guy Card.
We have lots of products to use, so this will be a good one!

I really like the Lift Me Up Stamp set with coordinating
Up and Away Thinlits for masculine cards.  I think that
a lot of guys enjoy hot air balloon images.  This bundle
has them in abundance!

They fit really well on this fun fold card,
that enables you to place balloons on 3 different panels.
I used retired DSP to decorate the 3 panels.

I appreciate you stopping by and urge you to click on
over to see what Buffy and Susan have done with their
masculine projects.

Lovely Inside and Out Bokeh

The Lovely Inside and Out set on page 157, is such a
fun product to coordinate with the Lovely Words Thinlits
on page 214.  The words and images are very pleasant,
when used together.

It's difficult to see, but I used the Bokeh technique on this card.
The splash image was stamped in Soft Sky and Blushing Bride,
with Whisper White Craft ink stamped over top.  You can
see some of the color transitions if you look for them.  I added
Bermuda Bay ribbon and wording, to make this card pop.

Pocketful of Sunshine Pocket

Pocketful of Sunshine (p 64), with the coordinating
Pocket Framelits (p 214) is a fun, vibrant bundle.
It can be used on a card front, or formed into a pocket
for gift giving.  It is a great masculine option, too.

In this example, I used the Color Theory DSP pack (p 187)
with Dapper Denim card stock.  They make a great
combination.  I added the flower from the Flourishing Thinlits
set on page 216.

Stamp Off Butterfly Basics Sympathy

Hey Friends.  Thank you for joining Buffy, Susan and I
for another Stamp Off Challenge.  We enjoy your visits
(and comments)!
This week, we are doing a sketch challenge created by
Susan.  Thank you Susan, for sharing such a great sketch!
Given my "mature age", I often need sympathy cards.
Sometimes, it is challenging to make one in the moment,
so I like to have some on hand.  I used Butterfly Basics,
on page 149, and cut out the image with the indispensible
Stitched Shapes Framelits on page 214.
The Wood Textures DSP Stack layer (p 187) was attached
to the Old Olive card base and then run through the
Brick Wall Textured Impressions Embossing folder (p 210).
I used the sentiment from Flourishing Phrases (p 24),
which is a wonderful set for a variety of Occasions,
including sympathy.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope that you will
check out what Susan and Buffy did with this challenge.

Message in a Bottle Mermaid

Message in a Bottle, on page 52 is one of my favorite new
catalog sets.  It works for kids and adults, Valentines or
Birthdays.  It's pretty darn cute.

I layered the mermaid in a bottle (cut out with Stitched Shapes
Framelits dies) on to a strip of Lemon Lime Twist c/s,
and then Color Theory DSP Stack (p 187) layer.
It's a card that makes me smile.

Text Ya Later

The Text Ya Later, on page 61 is smart and modern.  It is
the perfect set to use with those millennials, who keep their
heads buried in their cell phones.  It offers many sentiments,
so that you can fashion unique vollies of messages.

Stamp Off Watts of Occasions

We're back, same day, same channel!  Susan, Buffy
and I love bringing you our Stamp Off Challenge every Friday.
Today we are bringing you a color challenge.  Now
Buffy and Susan know that this color combo is a BIG
challenge for me.   I have used Lemon Lime Twist
on a limited basis, because it feels very bright, to me.
I did a couple of things to increase my comfort level.
I used a clean and simple (CAS) format, including the very
simplistic outline from Watts of Occasions, on page 63.
The lightbulb was colored with the "swish" image from
Work of Art on page 151.  All 3 colors were stamped,
although the Pool Party was somewhat obscured.
The Lemon Lime Twist is toned down when paired
with darker colors, so the Bermuda Bay and Basic Black
layers helped a great deal.  I added 3/8 " Bermuda Bay
Chevron ribbon, with a loop of Basic Black Solid Baker's
Twine (both on page 199).  After all that, I found that
the Lemon Lime Twist is a fun color!
Now please hop on over to check out what Buffy
and Susan did with this challenge.  They are not as
"challenged" with this color combination, so
I look forward to seeing their delightful offerings.

You're Delightful Hostess Set

This is another hostess set, You're Delightful, on page 223.
As I mentioned in the previous post, the hostess sets are
"delightful".  The big sentiment components makes for a
quick and easy card.  The background layer for this card
comes from the Color Theory Designer Series
Paper Stack on page 187.

Tranquil Tulips with Lovely Inside and Out

This catalog has some amazing hotess sets, listed
on pages 220-223.  I love 3-4 of them, but my fav is
Tranquil Tulips.  This is an incredibly elegant,
2-step stamping set.  It enables you to make numerous
cards, using different color combinations, or just
stamping off the base stamp so that you can use
a single ink color for the flowers.  In this example,
I used Pool Party and Bermuda Bay.

I find that this set coordinates extremely well with
Lovely Inside and Out (p 157) and the coordinating
Lovely Words Thinlits on page 214.  They just
fit together!  I'm not 100% sure that decapitated
tulips work, however.

Stamp Off Butterfly Basics Framed

Greetings and welcome to the Stamp Off Challenge
with Buffy, Susan and Jackie.  We're here every Friday,
for your stampin pleasure.

This week we are featuring a Frame It Challenge.
We need to somehow, use a frame on our project.
Stampin' Up features Framelits that work well for
creating frames on page 214.

I love frames on cards, but found this challenge
easier said than done.  I'm a CAS stamper, with a bit
of OCD thrown in, so I have difficulty with things
that aren't real "organized".  In this example, I used
a Copper frame, from the Layering Squares Framelits.
I framed the buttterfly from Butterfly Basics on page 149.
I embossed the Tranquil Tide layer with the
Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing
Folder on page 211 with Copper Embossing Powder.
I like the irregular spatters of embossing powder,
surrounding the butterfly!

Now,  please click on over to see what Buffy and Susan
have done with their frames.

Colorful Seasons with Daisy Sun

If you haven't gotten the Colorful Seasons set (on page 224)
with the coordinating Seasonal Layers Thinlits (p 216),
you should!  I think that this is the most flexible,
delightful bundle in the 2017-18 catalog.  It literally
works for every single season.

In this example, I used Work of Art, on page 151,
to create the sand.  I added the "ENJOY" sentiment from
Thoughtful Banners on page 66.  Can you figure out what
I made the sun out of??  That's the Daisy punch
on page 206.  I just ran it through a circle die, to cut
off the petals.  I thought that the Daisy worked
pretty well for a sun!

Happy Birthday Thinlits Die

It is the day before Independence Day, but I did not
create a standard 4th of July card.  I think that
this card has some of those elements, with the little
"Oh My Stars" impressions from the Textured
Impressions Embossing Folder on page 210.
They look like little explosions.

I added 3 "Happys" from the new Happy Birthday
Thinlits Die on page 213.  I like the fact that these
words can be used individually, so that this Die does
not have to be used for just Birthdays.

Stamp Off Wood Textures Birthday

Greetings crafting friends.  Susan, Buffy and I are
back for our Friday Stamp Off Challenge!
This week, we are featuring our favorite new SU
Designer Series Papers.  There a number of packs
to pick from, on pages 187-189, so let the fun begin.

I LOVE the new Wood Textures DSP pack on page 187.
The pack of 6x6 papers features different wood textures,
in shades that work well with different cardstock colors,
or work together.  They are stunning.  In this example,
I cut up pieces into 1 inch widths, and glued them into
a ship lap configuration.  I love the ship lap look in homes,
and found that it works great on cards, too!
I debated using the grey shaded
piece of wood, but decided that they all worked together.

I tried different cardstock, and decided that the
Copper Foil sheet (p 194) was the best choice for the
Happy Birthday Thinlits die (on page 213).  It blended with
the Wood Textures, but still stood out.  I built it up by layering it on a die cut of Early Espresso, to add more contrast with the Wood Textures DSP.
1/4 inch Copper Trim (p 199) worked well with the
color scheme and added more texture to the card.
I now invite you to scoot on over to Buffy and Susan's
blogs, to see what they have done with this challenge.
I'm curious as to whether we all selected the same,
or different DSP packs.  Now's your time to find out!

Beautiful You on Glossy

Last Friday, Susan, Buffy and I did a Stamp Off
Challenge with Glossy Cardstock (page 194).  This is
another card that I made using the same technique.
The colors are Flirty Flamingo and Peekaboo Peach,
dragged across the Glossy cardstock.

I added the image and sentiment from Beautiful You,
on page 141.  I love this image, with the streaks of
ink, giving it "flow".  This technique makes this a
very quick and easy card to create!

Seasonal Layers Note Card

This card features several of the new 2017-19 In Colors;
Berry Burst and Tranquil Tide.  These are very rich,
elegant colors.  I've used my fav, Seasonal Layers
Thinlits Dies, on page 216, to create the chair and
tree images.  The background is embossed with the
Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
This is such a great set of dies, enabling beautiful
forms for every season.

Stamp Off Glossy Cardstock Technique

Welcome to another weekly Friday Stamp Off Challenge,
offered by Susan, Buffy and Jackie.
As June speeds past, we are 1 month into the new
2017-18 Stampin' Up! catalog.  One of my favorite new
products is Glossy White Cardstock, found on page 194.
So many lovely techniques can be done with
this cardstock.  SU sold it years ago, and finally
brought it back, which makes me very happy!

I create many of my Stamp Off challenge posts
in advance, given travel and other activities.
I had already created this post,
before last week's challenge,
where Buffy used this technique .
I love  the fact that you can drag an ink pad
across Glossy cardstock,
to create kind of a woodgrain look.  Unlike Whisper White
cardstock, smears or "mistakes" are more easily corrected
on Glossy cardstock.  In the sample above, I dragged
my Memento ink pad across the glossy layer.  After it
dried, I added streaks of Wisteria Wonder.
Jar of Love, on page 29, with coordinating
Everyday Jars Framelits Dies (p 213) is a wonderful
"go-to" set.  In this example, I stamped the
Daffodil and Wisteria Wonder flowers on Glossy
Cardstock.  The jar of flowers was attached.
I can't wait to see what Buffy and Susan
create with Glossy cardstock, so please check
out their projects!

Celebrations Duo with Lovely Inside & Out

I'm still experimenting with new product from the
2017-18 catalog.  There is just something about
"new rubbah", that gets the juices flowing.  It's
fun when you get an idea in your head
and then try to create it.  Sometimes it is just as
you pictured the finished project.
Other times you take a journey that
ends up in a totally different location!

In this case, I pretty much ended up with the picture
that I had in my head.  I ran whisper white cardstock
through the Celebrations Duo Textured Impressions
Embossing Folder on page 211.  Next, I stamped
the "burst" shape from the Lovely Inside and Out
set on page 157, in Pool Party, Wild Wasabi and
Crumb Cake.  My favorite part is the way the bits of color
emphasize the letters.  I added "Birthday" from the
Thoughtful Banners set on page 66.  The Linen
Thread finished things off.

Oval Tranquil Tulips

One of the lovely things about a new catalog, is new
Hostess Sets that can be earned with a workshop.
Tranquil Tulips, on page 223 is a stunning set.
It is a two step stamping photopolymer set,
that is easy to match up.  In this example, I used Sweet
Sugarplum and the new Berry Burst In colors (on page 184). Tranquil Tulips fits perfectly in the
Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Ovals
Framelits, both found on page 214.

The wording comes from the Lovely Words Thinlits,
also on page 214. They can be used within the frame,
or cut out for use of the words alone.  I mounted
the oval image on a piece of Wild Wasabi, run through
the Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
